A British Veterinary Association (BVA) e a British Association of Small Animal Veterinarians (BSAVA) pediram ao governo britânico para adotar uma abordagem baseada em evidências de mau comportamento e não de raça na legislação relativa à classificação de cão perigoso, avança o periódico espanhol Animal’s Health. O pedido surge no âmbito do 30º aniversário da Lei dos Cães Perigosos (1991).
Os médicos veterinários britânicos notam que a base da lei foi “amplamente desacreditada”. A BVA explica que a lei britânica proíbe a propriedade de certos tipos de raças que são vistas como um risco para a segurança pública. Estes tipos de raças incluem o pit bull, o tosa inu, o dogo argentino e o fila-brasileiro.
“As investigações não encontraram uma redução nos incidentes de comportamento agressivo e mordidas de cães desde que a lei foi introduzida, e os médicos veterinários estão preocupados que definir determinadas raças como perigosas pode levar à falta de ênfase no papel do detentor responsável na prevenção de agressões de cães”, afirmam.
